"Mi Vallejo"
Obra de teatro con la participación del actor peruano Reynaldo Arenas
In this 2005 production of “Mi Vallejo”, Peruvian actor Reynaldo Arenas brilliantly portrays poet, writer César Vallejo. Written by Chilean playwright Sergio Arrau, “Mi Vallejo” is a retrospective of the poignant travels and travails of Vallejo’s life. Some of the outstanding characters in Vallejo’s life are portrayed by delightful puppets, created, operated, and voiced by Angel Calvo and Yohana Yara. These puppets appear in windows of the set and carry on conversations with Vallejo, leading the viewer through various countries and events, exposing Vallejo’s passions, torments and political beliefs.

Born in Peru in1895 to parents who were of mixed Spanish and Quechua Indian origins, Vallejo as a child, witnessed the hunger and poverty first hand, and the injustices done to the Indians of the region.
His loss of security, sense of futility and inherent limitations of life, and the inability of human beings to achieve their potential because of social oppression and injustice led him to involvement in political matters concerning Indians. He joined the Communist party, was imprisoned for three months, and left Peru forever. He continued to champion for social reform from France, then Spain until the end of his life in 1938.
